Today, we have a collection of facts about why our city is called "The Motor City", and hope to shed some light on the things that we should be proud of as Detroiter's.

1. Detroit is home to the world's first urban freeway. It was opened on November 25, 1942 as an attempt to connect the plant's in Highland Park to it's neighbor city, Detroit. This is known as the Davidson freeway today.

2. Henry Ford was the pioneer of the modern assembly line for cars. That's right: the assembly line that is the model for almost every car industry in the State's, as well as a across the world was started right here in our city. The first car to be produced in an assembly line was Ford's Model T.

3. John R. Road was named after the first mayor of Detroit named John Williams. To distinguish himself from other people with the common name John Williams he added a R to the end of the road's name even though he did not truly have a middle name. This is why there is no period after the name on the road, it is not a middle name!
